I swear by my beard that I'm the man you all feared...

Silent Bob / Rockin' Bob
...and I'm a killer!

Need more murder ballads in your life? If you're looking for macabre, sinister, foot-stompin', flat-pickin', fiddle-sawin', moonshine-fueled songs of betrayal, insanity, passion, stone-cold acts of killin', and the utmost conviction that "Yes, tonight my love must die a bloody death at my hands," then The Pine Box Boys are for you.

Not so much "goth" as they are "gothic", The Pine Box Boys play old-time/bluegrass that's been described as "southern horrorbilly". If Rob Zombie were from Arkansas, he might write have written songs like I Kept Her Heart for his album Hellbilly Deluxe.

If ever someone makes a movie called The Arkansas Toothpick Massacre or When The Blue Grass Runs Red, the Boys would be a perfect choice for the soundtrack.

How topical! "Delia" just came up on my mix mere moments before I read your post.

Also, I love Rob Zombie, but I get really worried about those who don't get the tongue-in-cheek irony of his stuff. Uh, Dragula was the name of Hermann Munster's car, guys.

Also, RIP Grandpa Munster.

RIP
Wow, Grandpa was quite accomplished. I had no idea. RIP.

Tom Lehr is about my limit on that stuff...

If I want gruesome, I just walk into the bar's men's room.

Until we start getting more murder ballads where it's the sister who kills her brother in a fit of incestuous passion and buries him beneath the tree, or the wife who kills her philandering husband, or really any kind of equal gender representation among victims... well, y'know, "songs about yet more women getting murdered" isn't really my idea of a good time.

Fair enough. It is a rather biased tradition as far as folk goes. And you're not a big Rob Zombie fan either.

Then again, Goodbye, Earl is a murder ballad. Good tune, too. :D

Try "Your Shadow"
Actually, on The Pine Box Boys album ARKANSAS KILLING TIME, the murderer in the song "Your Shadow" is female.

Rob Zombie, for all the propers I'm willing to give him, never wrote anything as interesting as "I Kept Her Heart."
